Crate Texture

Our first task is to create a basic wooden box, in Maya, i make a plane then using the extrude tool, i created a inset and then extruding from that inset, to create the basic shape of a box.

Ensuring the snap to point tool is selected I pressed inset and moved the pivot to one of the corners of the object.

I then duplicate the plane and rotate it, ensuring that both edges snap together i repeat this multiple time until I have full 3D cube.

Making a cube/box using this plane techniques is better as I only need to UV map one face because the rest are duplicates, this maximizes UV space.

For the texture itself, i start off by painting a brown base color, adding shadows and highlights to make the box feel more realistic.

Here I have painted in wooden grains, i then added a slight outer glow, to make them standout abit more.

Here is my textured crate, i'm pleased with the outcome and style of it so far, now want to add some text to the box.

Here i have added some text to the box, i then set the layer mode to overlay, so the text actually looks like its been painted on the box.

With the text sorted i then duplicate and rotate many boxes to create a large pile of them.
